Thus, it seeks to unblock paths to resolution, build trust between the parties, pave the way for rapprochement, find alternatives to conflict and make concrete proposals for institutional strengthening and social change that will contribute to the consolidation of peace.

CITpax works with governments and public institutions, as well as the private sector and non-state actors with the capacity to influence decision-makers (second track diplomacy). It also works in close cooperation with the different sectors of society, including local organisations, victims and the communities affected by conflict.

Its activities are mainly focused on:

Mediation

• Back-channel negotiations: discreet meetings between conflicting parties, involving no official representatives, but with access to political leaders with decision-making capacity
• Providing advice to official and unofficial actors in negotiation
• The organization of meetings and fora for promoting exchange of experiences and lessons learned in the field of mediation
• Capacity building in the field of mediation

Policy Development & Public Discussion

• The organisation of closed-door workshops and meetings with representatives of civil society, national and international experts as well as officials in order to open new lines of communication and lay the foundation for trust between the parties  
• Meetings involving policymakers and experts to increase knowledge and understanding regarding specific issues of contention or complexity
• Public seminars and conferences on policy issues related to mediation and peacebuilding
